In partnership with the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD), BNSF has been awarded a Zero and Near Zero Emission Freight Facilities (ZANZEFF) grant from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The $22.6 million grant will fund a clean technology pilot program that includes zero-emissions trucks.
A BYD drayage truck was delivered in mid-December 2019 and after training on the truck, charger and maintenance, the truck went into service as of February 2020 at BNSF’s San Bernardino yard. A ChargePoint “smart” charger has been installed that provides real-time information on utility costs, in order to manage the truck’s energy usage as efficiently as possible.
