In September and October, BNSF replaced more than 30,000 ties over a 75-mile stretch of track from north of Madera to Corcoran, Calif.
BNSF coordinated closely with Amtrak to minimize passenger service delays and complete this work as efficiently and safely as possible.
This maintenance work was part of BNSF’s $170 million capital commitment in California for 2017, which is primarily focused on maintenance projects that help ensure BNSF continues to operate a safe and reliable network.
The largest component of this year’s capital plan is for replacing and upgrading rail, rail ties and ballast, which are the main components for the tracks on which BNSF trains operate. Regular maintenance of the railroad allows BNSF to keep its network infrastructure in optimal condition.
