BNSF continues to invest in California with major improvements on the Needles Subdivision, an essential part of the Southern Transcon east of Barstow. Crews are completing an 11-mile segment of new track between Ash Hill and Siberia as part of a multi-year plan to add 45 miles of triple track on ascending grades. This corridor moves some of the West’s most important freight. The added capacity will reduce congestion and help trains move smoothly through steep grades and challenging desert terrain.
The Ash Hill–Siberia segment is scheduled to enter service between early and mid-2026. Each new mile supports long-term growth for shippers and communities throughout California.
