With more than 200 highly trained special agents, the BNSF Police Department is a unique law enforcement agency tasked with securing one of the largest freight rail networks in the country. From coast to coast—and across the diverse landscapes of California—these agents protect trains, cargo, infrastructure, and communities through daily patrols, collaboration with local agencies, and strategic outreach.
In Southern California, Special Agent Rick Colbert brings decades of experience and a deep sense of purpose to his role. Based in San Bernardino, Colbert works closely with local law enforcement, first responders, and BNSF teams to keep rail operations secure in one of the most high-traffic freight corridors in the country. His work spans everything from responding to incidents and monitoring infrastructure to building community relationships and mentoring younger officers.
“We’re here to protect people, property, and the flow of goods. That’s what it comes down to, every day,” Agent Colbert said. “And we take that responsibility seriously.”
