Hands-on training ensures first responders are ready for any type of emergency. Recently, BNSF helped organize a large-scale hazardous materials exercise along the Alameda Corridor—a 20-mile freight rail “expressway” connecting Southern California ports with our rail network. The drill simulated train-related hazmat scenarios, bringing together over 200 responders from agencies including the Los Angeles, LA County, Compton, Downey, and Long Beach fire departments for critical, real-world training.

BNSF works closely with other railroads and local emergency teams to lead on rail safety and hazmat preparedness. Each year, we provide free training to about 8,000 first responders, helping communities stay ready to respond quickly and safely. Since 1996, over 125,000 emergency personnel have completed our program.
